Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are just a few of the hottest social media websites out there. Millions of people have signed up to these particular sites for different reasons. Some may do it just to stay in contact with family and friends. While others may do it in the hope that people will follow them and they could become rich and famous. Celebrities also have their own pages to stay connected with their fans.
There’s nothing wrong with being a part of these outlets, unless it consumes your life. The obsession with following someone or being followed by someone is dangerous territory. Why? The reason is because it allows the enemy to really play with your mind. If you’re being followed by tons of people, pride will set in and you will start lifting yourself up as God’s gift to mankind. If you’re following someone, like a celebrity, you may start to lift that person up in high regard, which may turn into idol worship.
Too many people follow celebrities and glorify them. However, it’s important to understand that those in the Hollywood spotlight can’t help you in your time of need. There’s only ONE that can save you and His name is Jesus. In the above Scripture Jesus tells us that if we follow Him we won’t walk in darkness anymore, but will have the light of life. Following the Lord Jesus Christ will radically change your life. He will take you out of darkness and bring you into His glorious light.
1 Thessalonians 5:5- You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
Who have you been following? This question should be in your heart every day. It’s important to examine your life and know who’s guiding it. Are you truly following Jesus or are you being led by the ways of the world? What path are you being led down? If it’s not based off of God’s Word, then you’re going in the wrong direction. Don’t fall for Satan’s traps. Jesus is the ONLY WAY, so follow Him.
