Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
In the past few weeks, we’ve seen some horrible and tragic events in the UK. It all started when terrorists attacked an Ariana Grande concert. Police were able to capture those that did it, however, one week later there was another attack on the London Bridge. The ideology of terrorism is to kill and bring fear into the hearts of people. They want us to be afraid of them. It seems as if the terrorists are winning. So, how do we fight back and beat them? The answer is by having the peace of God reign in our hearts.
There’s an old saying that goes like this: Fight fire with fire. Even though it’s a classic phrase, I disagree with it. What happens when you fight fire with fire? All you have is a lot of fire, which brings destruction. Revenge is not the answer. How do you put a fire out? You do it by pouring water over it. Fire and water are the opposite of one another. So, the only way to beat fear is by doing the opposite of it, which is by having peace. However, it’s important to note that it’s not just any type of peace, its God’s peace. Jesus makes it very clear in Scripture that He has given us His peace not the world’s peace. The peace that comes from the world is temporary, but the peace that comes from God is eternal. God’s peace will protect you from fear.
Philippians 4:7- And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
The word “guard” is translated as “protect.” God’s peace will protect our hearts and minds. Why does He want to protect our hearts and minds? The reason is so that the devil won’t be able to sow fear into us. Fear will always bring doubt and disbelief, which stops us from trusting in the Lord. Don’t allow Satan’s plans of terrorism dictate the way you live your life. I encourage you to beat the enemy at his own game and walk in God’s peace.
