Love One Another

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12

I had a difficult time making friends as a child due to my visual impairment. As the other children hurled insults my way, I started to resent them. Bitterness and anger grew within me. However, that all changed when I gave my life over to the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of eight years old. After receiving Christ into my heart, something happened that I didn’t expect. I felt this unconditional love that I had never experienced before in my life. Please don’t get me wrong, my parents always showed me unconditional love as a child, but this was different. God’s love poured within my soul and it changed me.

After my conversion, I had a different mindset. I would show God’s love towards those that had bullied me. As time went on, the love of God started to affect these kids and soon enough I was able to make friends. I became so popular that in my senior year of high school I was crowned Homecoming King. The only reason I had the privilege of receiving this honor was because the true King of Kings lives inside of me.

Despite our sin and our offenses towards Him, God sacrificed His only begotten Son that we may live and have eternal life with Him. God’s love was shown to us on the cross.

John 3:16- For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 5:8- But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Even when Christ was on the cross, the Pharisees and religious leaders mocked Him; however, He still laid down His life because of His love towards us, especially those that insulted Him. We are commanded through His Word to love others just like He loved us. Let us put others first even when they do us wrong. Let us shine God’s light in a dark world. The only way for us to do that is if we love one another.
