A Gift

“Oh, no, just another gift.” You think as you carefully pick up another wrapped parcel under the tree. Your thoughts are racing and you tear the paper off only to reveal??...

What do you do with many of the gifts you receive and do not want? Are they re-gifted? Thrown away? Stuck in a closet for maybe another occasion where it could be used?

God sent His Son Jesus to us as a gift. We did not know we needed Him. God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. It is at Christmas, that we celebrate that sacrifice, born over 2000 years ago, in a stable, to a virgin, surrounded by animals and the smell of fresh hay.

As you prepare to celebrate with your families, there will be many situations where “Joy to the world” around you just seems to make your life worse! Then after Christmas, you have time to think and time brings painful reminders of the things and people that have hurt you the most!

Jesus, the One whose birth we’re celebrating knows about all your pain. He sees your broken dreams, broken heart and He knows how much it’s hurting you. He cares about that pain, He cares about your loneliness and He really understands!

Isaiah 53:3 says it like this: “He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.” (Amplified version)

Jesus was misunderstood, despised, rejected, forsaken, hated, filled with sorrows, pain, grief, sickness and terrible suffering. He was abandoned, betrayed, falsely accused, mocked, spat upon, pierced and put to death! Just in case you feel that whatever you have experienced in your life is so awful that no one can identify with your brokenness, there is someone who knows, cares and understands and His name is Jesus!

Before you begin to feel depressed about what you are reading, I want to end with this huge reminder! Also from Isaiah 61:1, the Son of God says, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed and qualified me to preach the Gospel of good tidings to the meek, the poor and afflicted. He has sent me to bind up and heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison and of the eyes to those who are bound.”

It doesn’t matter what your hurt is or where you have the most pain, nor for how long or how bad it’s been. He will Bind what’s Broken – but you have to trust Him! And this Christmas let Him bring about the healing in your lives to all your pain.

May this Christmas be your Very Best yet.
