Proverbs 16:24 "Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."
I believe we have all heard the saying "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never harm me."
That is a false statement. Words can hurt us and words can encourage us also. We have all been there; we have all used words that have hurt people and we also have been hurt by people's words to us.
We cannot control other people's words towards us but we can control, with the help of God, our responses to these hurtful words.
It is not what we say that can cut deep into a person’s soul, it is how we say it.
Said correctly, our words can be a healing balm to folks. They can inform people what we see in them and used and said correctly, can help folks in a positive way.
Even though we may not be English professors, we are able to speak kind words, encouraging words and helpful words to people. But we need to season our words with the Love of God.
How do we accomplish using words that will help? By following Jesus' pattern.
When we read about how Jesus spoke to people, He always spoke the truth with love, even when He corrected people.
Jesus seasoned His words with Divine Grace and Mercy.
We need to ask ourselves - Do my words encourage, help and correct or do my words seek to harm and make people feel angered?
We can change the pattern of our words only with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Let us start working on that today. Amen.
