A Merry Heart
A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Let me start off with a joke today. So, get ready for it! What did the baby corn say to the mama corn? The answer is: Where’s POP corn? - Get it? Because popcorn is a…. okay, it wasn’t that funny. However, I hope it put a little bit of a smile on your face. I think it’s important to make people happy. One of the ways we do that is by making them laugh. As the Scripture above says, ‘A merry heart does good, like medicine.’
You might know someone that is down and out right now. This person might have a lot of problems and is dealing with anxiety, which is causing them to have depression. How can you help this person? Give them a good word!
Proverbs 12:25- Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.
When you give them a good word, that’s when their heart will be glad (merry). So, what’s a good word Pastor James? The answer is God’s Word. The Lord will give you the words to speak.
Isaiah 50:4- “The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning. He awakens My ear to hear as the learned."
Now that you know how to make someone have a merry heart, the next question we should be answering is: Why do we want to make someone have a merry heart? The answer to this question is found in Proverbs 15:13.
Proverbs 15:13- A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
A merry heart will make someone cheerful in their appearance. They could’ve been the most depressed person, but when you give them a good word (God’s Word), that’s when everything will change. People that have a broken heart are looking for hope. Well, our hope comes from the Lord and He is the One that will heal their hearts.
Psalm 147:3-He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Let’s impact somebody’s life so that they can have a merry heart!
