Stressful Times

But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” Luke 10:40

We live in a fast-paced world, which means that everybody is on the move because they’re busy. There’s nothing wrong with having a full plate. However, when you have an overloaded schedule, it can burden you down. During these stressful times, you may be worried about many things. So, this brings me to my question for today. What should we do during stressful times?

1. Focus on Jesus

In Luke 10:40, we find that Martha was distracted. She was running around trying to get everything perfect and yet her focus wasn’t on Jesus. How many times do we run around trying to get everything perfect in our own lives, but our focus isn’t on Jesus? My friends STOP BEING DISTRACTED by the worries of this world and start focusing on Jesus. Martha’s sister Mary understood this principle. How did Mary focus on Jesus? The answer is found in point 2.

2. Get into His presence and His Word.

Luke 10:39- And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.

Mary sat at Jesus’ feet which means that she was in His presence. Her focus was to be around the Lord and nowhere else. Our hearts desire should be the same thing. We get into God’s presence through prayer. When you talk to the Lord, He will show up through the power of the Holy Spirit and that’s when He will comfort you through His peace during your stressful time.

The Scripture goes on to explain that she heard His word. Mary focused on Jesus by listening to what He had to say. If we’re going to focus on Jesus during stressful times, then we must listen to what He has to say. How do we do this? The answer is by getting into His Word. God’s Word will direct our path.

Psalm 119:105- Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
