Peace Through Obedience

And Samuel replied: "Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." 1st Samuel 15: 22

There are many other places in the Bible where the theme, "Obeying God is better than sacrifice," is found. (Psalms 40:6-8, Proverbs 21:3 Hebrews 10:5-9) Samuel was not telling the people that sacrifice was not important, but what Samuel was trying to say was that a person's heart must be right with God for a sacrifice to be made correctly.

Today, some folks go to Church and their heart is far from the Lord and what He requires of them. We go to church to Worship and honor Jesus first. If people are going to Church because it is a ritual, then sit home and watch television.

I believe that people get into trouble when they fail to obey the Lord. They will substitute Jesus with drinking to excess or taking drugs to dull the pain instead of turning to Jesus who can change them from the inside out.

When you obey the Lord and let Him into your heart, He will take you on a deeper level of love between Himself and you. In other words, Jesus will calm the battle you are going through and bring you His peace.

Noah was told by God to build an ark because God was going to cause a flood to happen to destroy all flesh. Noah did obey and built the ark well before any rain had fallen on the earth. Genesis 6:22, "Noah did everything just as God commanded."

We need only to look to Jesus and see how God the Son obeyed the Father. Jesus left heaven's glory and came to earth to redeem mankind. Romans 5:19, "For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous." Jesus obeyed and we who believe in Him, are forgiven and redeemed.

You learn obedience in Jesus when you hold onto His hand as He leads you through your storms of life. You do this by not promising vows to the Lord, but by walking in fellowship and by obeying the Lord's written Word. Seek Jesus every day in prayer and ask Him to give you His wisdom, strength and peace.

Don't run from Jesus or church. Obey Him and then allow His peace to flow into your life. Amen.
