I Take Refuge in God Always
"Keep me safe, O God, for in You I take refuge. I said to the Lord, You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing." Psalm 16:1-2
What a wonderful Scripture. King David was the author and he knew that God would take care of him.
We don't use or hear the word Refuge too much today so what does refuge in God mean? It means to have a shelter against harm. It means that in our God we can take Refuge in Him during the storms of life and in times of trouble. It means that in all of life's journeys we have a sure place of protection and peace from the God of peace.
David also knew to trust in the Lord because God was David's portion in life and deliverer in death. We also need to know that just as David did we also must put our complete trust in the Lord.
Who else can we put our complete trust in? Our jobs, money, social position, the list could go on. All of these earthly things can and do let us down in our lives at one time or another. Only Jesus, our Lord, will never let us down. He will never disappoint us because He cannot lie. He is God and what He says in His word He will bring to pass.
Look at the Old Testament saint Job. We read about all that Job went through and still he put his trust in God. Job didn't understand what was happening in his life, but in Job 13:15, He says, "Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him." That was not blind trust that was true trust in a God who took care of Job and will today take care of all of us who are called His children. I don't know all the plans that Jesus has for me or for you, but I know we sit in the palm of His hands trusting in Him.
As Christians, we must take refuge in our Lord Jesus; He will deliver us in His time. I thank the Lord for doctors, nurses and all those who help in the medical field. But I first go to Jesus for His hand of blessing and healing and direction.
Psalm 46:1 says it all - "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Let us not fear to the point of a meltdown but remember to take refuge in our God. Jesus is alive and He intercedes for us before the Father. Fear not we are covered with His Love, Mercy and Grace. Amen.
