Hope for a New Year
1st Peter 1:3, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."
As the New Year begins, many folks are making resolutions as to what they want to do in the coming new year. But as we all know, and probably have made these same resolutions in the past, we have failed to keep them past February.
Instead of trying to set promises for ourselves, maybe we should set goals. But how do we set goals that can be attainable in the upcoming year? Well, in whose strength should we place our confidence in to keep these goals? Ourselves or our God. I think it would be best to put our efforts into our Lord, who we know will never lead us astray.
This year lets set a goal of allowing Jesus to work through us. Our opening Scripture is a beautiful picture of the blessings of the redeemed. Read 1st Peter 1: 3-9 and you will see how much the Lord loves us and cares for us.
As God's children and as members of His family, if we look to and allow the Lord to lead us, we will have a much brighter and clearer outlook. How do we do this? By asking God first for His direction in our lives and then asking Him for His strength to finish the goals we have set before us.
Charles Swindoll said this: "The beautiful thing about this adventure called faith is that we can count on Him never to lead us astray."
Jesus is our Good Shepherd and when we follow Him, He will lead us to green pastures and quiet waters, and we will have an abundance of joy for our lives, no matter what circumstances come our way!
Lord Jesus, if any of us want to set goals for the New Year, we pray that You show us what You would have us accomplish. Amen.
