And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 2 Kings 22:2
The Scripture above is referring to Josiah. He became King at the age of eight years old and reigned in Jerusalem for 31 years. The reason I love this Bible verse is because it declares that he did what was right in the sight of the Lord. As believers our hearts should be like Josiah and we should strive to do what is right in the sight of the Lord. I understand that it’s not always easy to do the right thing, especially in a world that has no moral standards.
Unfortunately, the society that we live in has turned their backs on God’s Word. Many people don’t believe in the Bible, while others just don’t want to follow it. They make up their own rules and perceive it to be the truth. However, their ways are foolish. The only way to be truly wise and do the right thing is by being counseled.
Proverbs 12:15- The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.
As Christians our counsel comes from God’s Word. Everything that the Lord has declared is the right way in doing things.
Psalm 33:4-For the word of the Lord is right and all His work is done in truth.
Now you might be wondering, “Pastor James, why should I do the right thing? The world’s way of doing things seems a lot more fun.” Please don’t be deceived by the ways of the world. They believe that their way of doing things is right, but it’s wrong and they’re headed down a destructive path to death.
Proverbs 16:25- There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
When you follow God’s Word and do the right thing, that’s when He will bless you.
Deuteronomy 12:28- Observe and obey all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.
Always remember to do the right thing!
