People with their minds set on You, You keep completely whole, steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don’t quit. Depend on God and keep at it because in the Lord God you have a sure thing. Isaiah 26:3-4 (The Message)
Oh, to have a sense of calm and inner peace is a wonderful promise from God Himself to us. We hear it, we love it, but oh, it escapes us regularly. Then we claim we have a sense of peace, but it leaves us at the sight of circumstances beyond our control. In other words, we have a “Shaky Peace”
This Scripture is the answer to our Shaky peace. If we keep our minds set on God and His purpose for our lives, He promises to cover us in a peace that will empower us to function and enable us to trust Him for the everyday circumstances beyond our control.
I have to smile at the disciples who remind me so much of us, today. They had seen Jesus raise people from the dead, healed many from their diseases and yet when it came to the time when they had to trust Him to feed the five thousand, they said it was impossible. Jesus, send them away… and what does Jesus do? He once again proves how amazing He is. He took the small portion of fish and loaves and everyone had plenty to eat with even twelve baskets left over.
Jesus, once again, wants to do His amazing work in and through our lives. But He wants us to keep our minds on Him and walk in His peace. He doesn’t want us to have a “Shaky Peace.” That is not one of His wishes for us. He encourages us to keep our minds focused on Him and He in return promises to give us peace.
How do we do this though? We know this Scripture so well. But how Lord do we walk the Word out? It takes practice. It takes discipline, but it is oh so worth the action.
Take time today to put this into practice and then do it again tomorrow. Focus on the Lord and His will for your lives. You will be amazed how it becomes second nature.
